On behalf of the entire Department of Entomology,
I welcome you to the graduate program. I sincerely hope that your graduate
experience will be challenging, enjoyable, and rewarding.
The information on the graduate program provides guidelines that are not intended to supersede or replace Graduate School
regulations. For the most part, students will find that the information
will keep them from missing important dates or overlooking critical
requirements for completing degree work.
The benefits students gain from graduate work are proportional
to the efforts applied. Therefore, I urge all students to participate
fully in the entire range of activities offered by the Department, including
social events as well as academic activities. I particularly want to
call attention to the weekly Colloquium seminar series and the get-together
that follows. The Colloquium is an excellent opportunity for students to become better
acquainted with other students, the faculty, and the speakers. This Department prides itself on the ability
of its students, faculty, and staff to work together to produce quality
programs in teaching, research, and extension. I hope you will participate.
If you have difficulty interpreting the guidelines or outlining
your own program of study, remember that your advisor and study committee
are there to assist you. Insofar as the requirements of the Entomology
Department are concerned, the Department's Graduate Affairs Committee
is the ultimate authority. If you are concerned about your program, request a meeting of your
committee. Students should meet with their committee at least one time
a year, especially in the early stages of their program.
One final word: my office is always open to you should you feel a
need to discuss any portion of your activities here. Good luck to you
and may you be successful in your studies.
